Abilify

Abilify (aripiprazole) is an antipsychotic medication used to treat schizophrenia, bipolar I disorder, major depressive disorder, Tourette's disorder, and autistic disorder in certain patients. Abilify helps to improve symptoms in these conditions by changing the activity of dopamine and serotonin in the brain.

Abilify belongs to a class of medications called atypical antipsychotics. Abilify is also available as Abilify Maintena, an injection given once a month, and Abilify Asimtufii, a long-acting injection administered every 2 months.

Abilify generic name is aripiprazole, and generic tablets and injections are available.

Abilify Asimtufii

Abilify Asimtufii is an atypical antipsychotic used for schizophrenia and bipolar I disorder in adults. Abilify Asimtufii is an extended-release injection that is given once every two months; this helps compliance and means patients only need 6 injections per year.

Abilify Asimtufii is thought to work (mechanism of action) by balancing the levels of serotonin and dopamine in the brain, however, the exact mechanism of action for schizophrenia and bipolar I disorder is unknown.

Abilify Maintena

Abilify Maintena (aripiprazole) extended-release injection is used alone or in combination with other aripiprazole preparations to treat schizophrenia (a mental illness that causes disturbed or unusual thinking, loss of interest in life, and strong or inappropriate emotions).

Abilify Maintena injection is also used for the ongoing treatment of people with bipolar I disorder (manic-depressive disorder; a disease that causes episodes of depression, episodes of mania, and other abnormal moods) Abilify Maintena belongs to a class of medications called atypical antipsychotics. It works by changing the activity of certain natural substances in the brain.

Abilify Maintena is an extended-release injectable suspension given once a month.

Abilify tablets are also available.

Diflucan is also used to prevent fungal infection in people who have a weak immune system caused by cancer treatment, bone marrow transplant, or diseases such as AIDS.

Diflucan is also used to treat a certain type of meningitis in people with HIV or AIDS. Certain other drugs can cause unwanted or dangerous effects when used with Diflucan, especially cisapride, erythromycin, pimozide, quinidine, astemizole, higher doses of terfenadine, and many other medications that are broken down by certain enzymes that are inhibited by fluconazole. Tell each of your healthcare providers about all medicines you use now, and any medicine you start or stop using.

Before taking Diflucan, tell your doctor if you have liver disease, kidney disease, a heart rhythm disorder, or a history of Long QT syndrome. Take this medicine for the full prescribed length of time. Your symptoms may improve before the infection is completely cleared. Skipping doses may also increase your risk of further infection that is resistant to antifungal medication. Fluconazole will not treat a viral infection such as the common cold or flu.

E

Erythromycin

Erythromycin belongs to a group of drugs called macrolide antibiotics. Macrolide antibiotics slow the growth of, or sometimes kill, sensitive bacteria by reducing the production of important proteins needed by the bacteria to survive.

Erythromycin is used to treat or prevent many different types of infections caused by bacteria. Erythromycin may also be used for purposes. Some medicines can cause unwanted or dangerous effects when used with erythromycin.

Your doctor may need to change your treatment plan if you use cisapride, pimozide, ergotamine, or dihydroergotamine. Before you take erythromycin, tell your doctor if you have liver disease, myasthenia gravis, a heart rhythm disorder, a history of Long QT syndrome, or low levels of potassium or magnesium in your blood. Take this medicine for the full prescribed length of time. Your symptoms may improve before the infection is completely cleared. Skipping doses may also increase your risk of further infection that is resistant to antibiotics.

Erythromycin will not treat a viral infection such as the common cold or flu. Antibiotic medicines can cause diarrhea, which may be a sign of a new infection. If you have diarrhea that is watery or bloody, stop taking erythromycin and call your doctor. Do not use anti-diarrhea medicine unless your doctor tells you to.

F

Famotidine

Famotidine is a histamine-2 blocker that works by decreasing the amount of acid the stomach produces. Famotidine is used to treat and prevent ulcers in the stomach and intestines. It also treats conditions in which the stomach produces too much acid, such as Zollinger-Ellison syndrome.

Famotidine also treats gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) and other conditions in which acid backs up from the stomach into the esophagus, causing heartburn.

Before taking famotidine, tell your doctor if you have kidney or liver disease, a history of Long QT syndrome, stomach cancer or other problems, or asthma, COPD, or other breathing problems. Famotidine may be only part of a complete program of treatment that also includes changes in diet or lifestyle habits.

Neurontin (gabapentin) is used to treat pain you may have from shingles (postherpetic nerve pain). It is also used with other seizure medicines for partial onset seizures in patients 3 years and older. Gralise (gabapentin) is only used for pain after having shingles (postherpetic nerve pain).

It should not be used for any other medical condition.

H

Hydralazine

Hydralazine is a vasodilator that works by relaxing the muscles in your blood vessels to help them dilate (widen). This lowers blood pressure and allows blood to flow more easily through your veins and arteries. Hydralazine is used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension).

Hydralazine may also be used for purposes.

Get emergency medical help if you have signs of an allergic reaction: hives; difficult breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat.

N

Naprosyn / Naproxen

Naprosyn is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID). Naproxen works by reducing hormones that cause inflammation and pain in the body. Naprosyn is used to treat pain or inflammation caused by conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, tendinitis, bursitis, gout, or menstrual cramps.

Naprosyn delayed-release tablets are slower-acting forms of naproxen that are used only for treating chronic conditions such as arthritis or ankylosing spondylitis. These forms of naproxen will not work fast enough to treat acute pain. You should not use Naprosyn if you have a history of allergic reaction to aspirin or other NSAID (nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug).

Naproxen can increase your risk of fatal heart attack or stroke, especially if you use it long term or take high doses, or if you have heart disease. Even people without heart disease or risk factors could have a stroke or heart attack while taking this medicine.

Do not use Naprosyn just before or after heart bypass surgery (coronary artery bypass graft, or CABG). Get emergency medical help if you have chest pain, weakness, shortness of breath, slurred speech, or problems with vision or balance. Naproxen may also cause stomach or intestinal bleeding, which can be fatal.

These conditions can occur without warning while you are using this medicine, especially in older adults.

O

Omeprazole

Omeprazole is used to treat excess stomach acid in conditions such as non cancerous stomach ulcers, gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), active duodenal ulcer, Zollinger-Ellison syndrome and erosive esophagitis. Omeprazole works by blocking gastric acid production and is from the group of medicines called proton pump inhibitors.

Omeprazole may also be given together with antibiotics to treat gastric ulcer caused by infection with Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori). Over-the-counter (OTC) omeprazole is used in adults to help control heartburn that occurs 2 or more days per week. The OTC brand must be taken as a course on a regular basis for 14 days in a row.

Omeprazole can cause kidney problems. Tell your doctor if you are urinating less than usual, or if you have blood in your urine. Diarrhea may be a sign of a new infection. Call your doctor if you have diarrhea that is watery or has blood in it.

Omeprazole is not to used for the immediate relief of heartburn symptoms. Omeprazole may cause new or worsening symptoms of lupus. Tell your doctor if you have joint pain and a skin rash on your cheeks or arms that worsens in sunlight.

You may be more likely to have a broken bone while taking this medicine long term or more than once per day.

P

Prednisolone

Prednisolone is a corticosteroid that may be used to reduce inflammation and calm down an overactive immune system. It works by mimicking the effects of cortisol, a hormone released by the adrenal glands (located on top of the kidneys) that regulates metabolism and stress.

Prednisolone prevents the release of substances in the body that cause inflammation. Prednisolone is used to treat many different inflammatory conditions such as arthritis, lupus, psoriasis, ulcerative colitis, allergic disorders, gland (endocrine) disorders, and conditions that affect the skin, eyes, lungs, stomach, nervous system, or blood cells.

Prednisolone has predominantly glucocorticoid activity, which means it mainly affects our immune response and reduces inflammation, rather than affecting the body's balance of electrolytes and water (this is called mineralocorticoid activity).

Q

Quazepam

Quazepam is a benzodiazepine (ben-zoe-dye-AZE-eh-peen) that is used to treat insomnia (trouble falling or staying asleep). Quazepam may also be used for purposes.

Spironolactone also treats fluid retention (edema) in people with congestive heart failure, cirrhosis of the liver, or a kidney disorder called nephrotic syndrome.

Spironolactone is also used to diagnose or treat a condition in which you have too much aldosterone in your body. Aldosterone is a hormone produced by your adrenal glands to help regulate the salt and water balance in your body.

You should use spironolactone with caution if you have kidney problems, high levels of potassium in your blood, Addison's disease, if you are unable to urinate, or if you are also taking eplerenone.

Spironolactone has caused tumors in animals but it is not known whether this could occur in people. Do not use this medicine for any condition that has not been checked by your doctor.

T

Tylenol

Tylenol is a pain reliever and a fever reducer.

Tylenol is used to reduce fever and relieve minor pain caused by conditions such as colds or flu, headache, muscle aches, arthritis, menstrual cramps and fevers.

Get emergency medical help if you have signs of an allergic reaction to Tylenol: hives; difficulty breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat.

In rare cases, acetaminophen may cause a severe skin reaction that can be fatal, even if you took Tylenol in the past and had no reaction. Stop taking this medicine and call your doctor right away if you have skin redness or a rash that spreads and causes blistering and peeling.

U

Urea (Intravenous)

Intra-amniotic urea is given by injection into the uterus to cause abortion. It is to be administered only by or under the immediate care of your doctor.

V

Valium

Valium is a benzodiazepine (ben-zoe-dye-AZE-eh-peen). It is thought that diazepam works by enhancing the activity of certain neurotransmitters in the brain.

Valium is used to treat anxiety disorders, or alcohol withdrawal symptoms.

Valium is sometimes used with other medications to treat muscle spasms and stiffness, or seizures.

You should not use Valium if you are allergic to diazepam or similar medicines (Ativan, Klonopin, Xanax, and others), or if you have myasthenia gravis, severe liver disease, narrow-angle glaucoma, a severe breathing problem, or sleep apnea.

Diazepam can slow or stop your breathing, especially if you have recently used an opioid medication or alcohol.

W

Warfarin

Warfarin is an anticoagulant (blood thinner). Warfarin reduces the formation of blood clots. Warfarin is used to treat or prevent blood clots in veins or arteries, which can reduce the risk of stroke, heart attack, or other serious conditions. Warfarin may also be used for purposes.

You should not take warfarin if you are prone to bleeding because of a medical condition, if you have an upcoming surgery, or if you need a spinal tap or epidural. Do not take warfarin if you cannot take it on time every day.

Warfarin increases your risk of severe or fatal bleeding, especially if you have certain medical conditions, if you are 65 or older, or if you have had a stroke, or bleeding in your stomach or intestines. Seek emergency help if you have any bleeding that will not stop.
